Halloween is typically a night of haunts and horrors, but this year is a little different. With the use of a crystal ball, tarot cards and a little meditation, we attempted to channel those on "the other side" this Halloween.
"And I kind of say a little prayer between you and I," said psychic and medium, Pauline Detloff. "I work with spirit and I get communication and I can't explain it. It's something that I've had since I was a little girl."
Dettloff is a Metro Detroit based psychic and medium.
"A medium is someone who talks with loved ones from the other side," she explains.
And that's what she planned to do for Local 4's Evrod Cassimy using her so-called psychic powers to tell him about his past and predict his future.
"When I'm in your energy or when I'm doing a reading with you, we become one. Okay?
And I go into your life and the spirit gives me messages and we talk."
"Have you ever been wrong?" asked Cassimy.
"Of course, I'm human," answered Detloff. "I consider myself 95 percent. I'm not 100 percent."
As Detloff shuffled her tarot cards, Cassimy admitted he was nervous about what he was opening himself up to.
"This is where spirit gets involved," she said. "Please put your hands on mine. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes for a moment in time."
Once the reading started there were a number of things that this psychic was spot on about.
"As I look into your work area you seem to be very excited about it. And I do see a beautiful lady here so I believe you're in a relationship. I believe you're married and I also believe there should be one maybe two children. You don't have any brothers or sisters? I thought you had a brother? I have a brother here," said Detloff. All these things were correct.
Psychic powers or a Google search? You be the judge.
Then there were a few things she was wrong about like his wife's job.
"I do see the medical field around her in an office scenario. What does your wife do for a living?" asked Detloff.
"She's a stay-at-home mom," Cassimy corrected.
She was also wrong about where he was born, how many of his family members went to college and what sports he played growing up.
"I didn't think you were born here either. Were you born here?" asked Detloff.
"I was born in Michigan, yes," corrected Cassimy.
"I think you're one of the special ones that got to go to college," Detloff replied incorrectly. "I do see basketball or some kind of crazy sport around you."
Despite what you might think of psychics, Pauline insists she's not into witchcraft. In fact, she believes communicating with the dead is her gift.
"Some people will walk up to me and say are you Christian? Absolutely! I'm kind of offended when they say that because yes I am! I do this with god!" explained Detloff.
She's been doing this for 35 years and as you can imagine, Halloween is her busiest and scariest time of year.
