So many fun concerts this week

Cyndi Lauper Farewell Tour (Live Nation)

Pixies

Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29

@ The Fillmore

‘90s alt rockers Pixies are headlining two shows at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit this week. The band put out an album late last year called “The Night the Zombies Came,” so expect to hear some new songs and the classics. Kurt Vile is opening, and if you’re not familiar, you will probably love him. He’s grungy in the same way Pixies are, but a little bit more garage rock.

Lucy Dacus

Tuesday, July 29

@ Masonic Temple Theater

Sad boys and girls unite! Lucy Dacus, who has become known for writing a devastating love song, returns to Detroit after releasing her excellent new album “Forever Is A Feeling” earlier this year. Dacus, who is also a member of the band boygenius with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, is making some of the best music of her career right now. I wouldn’t be shocked if she even plays some boygenius songs that she sings lead vocal on. Jay Som is opening, and you won’t want to miss her. She helped both produce Dacus’ latest album, as well as boygenius’ last album. This is her first new music since 2019.

Ruben Studdard

Wednesday, July 30

@ Sound Board

It’s not every day that you get to see a former “America Idol” winner take the stage. If you were a fan of the show back in the day, there’s no way you can’t remember Ruben Studdard, who won season two of the show. His rich vocals and charismatic personality launched his career. It’s not easy to follow up Kelly Clarkson, but Studdard somehow did. If you’re a fan of R&B, you won’t want to miss this show.

Devin Scillian and Arizona Sun

Wednesday, July 30

@ The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms

Hey, we know him! Our own Devin Scillian and his band Arizona Sun are performing this Wednesday at the War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms. The show is a part of their SummerFest concert series. We may be a little biased, but we know you won’t regret going to see Devin perform. If you miss seeing him on TV, this is the perfect way to see him again!

Cyndi Lauper

Friday, Aug. 1

@ Pine Knob

Well, we thought Cyndi Lauper had played her last Detroit show when she played at the Fox Theater last fall, but she’s keeping the farewell tour going with another show at Pine Knob on Friday night. There is seriously nothing better than a concert at Pine Knob, especially on a Friday night, so if you missed Lauper last time she was here, make sure you don’t this time around! It really could be her last time here.

Earth, Wind & Fire

Saturday, Aug. 2

@ The Fox Theater

Somehow Earth, Wind & Fire are still going strong, and they will be taking the stage at the Fox Theater this coming Saturday. What a perfect way to celebrate summer, and to get ready for fall by hearing this legendary band play “September” live!

Barenaked Ladies

Saturday, Aug. 2

@ Pine Knob

This is another throwback band that would be so fun to see live. It’s also a Saturday night at Pine Knob, so you have plenty of time to tailgate and have fun in the parking lot before the show starts. Barenaked Ladies will be joined by none other Sugar Ray (shoutout Mark McGrath!) and Fastball.

Katy Perry

Sunday, Aug. 3

@ Little Caesars Arena

Katy Perry returns to Detroit for the first time in a very long time to support her album that came out last summer, “143.” Perry hasn’t played in Detroit since the release of her fourth album, and this is not her sixth, so it’s been a minute! Fans can expect to hear all the hits like “California Gurls” and “I Kissed a Girl,” as well as some new ones from her latest release. Perry is always campy and fun when performing, so we think you’ll have a great time.
