CLEVELAND – The latest trend in yoga won't even require you to leave your seat. It's called "couch yoga."
Judi Bar is a certified yoga therapist at Cleveland Clinic. Bar says lots of people are trying "couch yoga" to stretch and strengthen their muscles.
She recommends starting with a pose called "The Rollercoaster." When it's done correctly, you should look like you're racing down a big hill on a rollercoaster.
"You lean back, now you want to keep your spine straight, and come back up. You're already starting to use deep abs. To make it a little harder, you lean back and lift your legs up, so what's happening now is that you're going deeper into the abs and starting to use the quadriceps a little more," said Bar.
You can even throw your arms in the air to strengthen your abs even more.
Bar said to work your oblique muscles, try side-bends from a sitting position.
"This lets the muscles relax. We're holding ourselves up. Take it off and all of our muscles are working against gravity. Stay there for a bit and as you get up, you're using your core to come up," said Bar. "We isolate it, we're nice and sturdy, we don't have to take our eyes off the TV."
Bar suggested working up to holding each pose for a count of ten and to be sure you check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.
