Health officials investigate possible hepatitis A exposure at St. Clair County restaurant

Possible exposure reported at Algonac Flaming Grill

ALGONAC, Mich. – The St. Clair County Health Department is investigating a case of hepatitis A related to a food worker at a restaurant in Algonac, Michigan.

Health officials said the employee worked at Algonac Flaming Grill, at 1065 St. Clair River Drive. The Health Department said anyone who ate at the restaurant or had carry-out food between Oct. 6 and Oct. 20 might have been exposed.

The worker is currently not working at the restaurant, but the restaurant is still open.

Anyone who feels like they might have been exposed can attend a free community vaccination clinic from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Algonac Lions Club, at 1905 Mill Street.

Hepatitis A symptoms can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dark urine, clay-colored stool, fever and chills. Another sign is jaundice, which causes yellow skin and eyes. Symptoms occur between 15 and 50 days after exposure and can last for several weeks to months.
