In the mood for mac and cheese? Hankering for some Mediterranean? Craving some comfort food? Well you can find it all at Detroit Fleat in Ferndale. It's a restaurant and a food truck rally all in one.
About a year ago, the owners of the popular Delectabowl food truck wanted to take the next step in their business. They had been seeing food truck parks around the country and decided to create one here in Metro Detroit, naming it Detroit Fleat.
The restaurant is open and colorful, with a bar and wait staff on the inside, and a patio with food trucks on the outside. Big garage doors allow people to easily travel between the food trucks and the bar. The owners said they wanted to keep the same feeling of a food truck rally, even though it was in a brick and mortar place. The inside has an industrial design with large murals on the wall with well-known Michigan brands like Faygo and Better Made.
Three permanent trucks are always a part of the food court outside, and on the weekends they feature a fourth truck. The food offerings are all unique. Delectabowl serves up various comfort foods in their signature bowl. Pita Post has Mediterranean fare including falafels and shawarma. Mac Shack has a variety of special mac and cheeses.
"When you do bring a family here you don't all have to decide on one type of cuisine, you have everything from mac and cheese for the kids to something a little more sophisticated like a falafel, or a taco," says co-owner Hillary Tye.
The restaurant itself also has its own menu, serving up street tacos, sliders and artisanal fries.Their whiskey and bacon sliders are a crowd favorite, featuring an Angus beef patty, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and a house made whiskey and bacon BBQ sauce.
If you would like to check out Detroit Fleat, they are located at 1820 E 9 Mile Rd, Ferndale, MI 48220. They are open 11am to midnight Tuesday through Sunday. For more information please visit their website here.
