This Greektown restaurant is serving up tasty dishes and barreled Bourbon

Owners traveled to distilleries to get the best booze

Tasty food, trendy cocktails, 2 locations, Troy and Detroit, and wooden barrels of booze, Firebird Tavern has a lot going on, but what’s up with the barrels?

“We went to Woodford distillery about 6 or 7 years ago. We picked out our own barrel of bourbon. So, we’re on our 7th barrel of bourbon now,” Owen Burke, Partner and Co-Owner of Firebird Tavern said.

Burke said they also barrel tequila, and the aging booze goes right along with the ascetics of the building of their Greektown location, which was build in the late 1800′s. He said the building on Monroe and Brush has a lot of character, so naming the restaurant had to be unique and meaningful.

“The Firebird in Greek Mythology means rising from the ashes and that’s basically what’s on the Detroit flag,” Burke said.

The restaurant will play host to a three day Draft party with outdoor tents, food trucks, and more, as part of the Greektown Draft Week Tailgate celebration. The event starts today and runs though Saturday.
