Book by Detroit singer is being turned into an opera

Focus is on an anti-bullying message

It started with an anti-bullying book written by a Detroit singer, and now the story is being turned into an opera that will take the stage.

The Motor City Lyric Opera will be presenting an anti-bullying opera called “Be Beautiful,” which is based on singer Beth Griffith-Manley‘s book titled “I am Beautiful Inside and Out.”

Mary Callaghan Lynch, the artistic director of The Motor City Lyric Opera, said she was inspired by how the book addressed choosing not to bully and instead, choosing to be kind.

The community is welcome to attend a workshop session for the opera, which will be held on Sunday, May 4th at 4:30 p.m. at The Schvitz in Detroit. There will be a Q&A and guests will be able to provide their feedback on the opera. The workshop is free, but donations are being accepted.
