This is key to help get a missing pet home again

May is Chip Your Pet Month, which encourages people to microchip their pets.

Pets can get a microchip through a quick procedure, and it offers a permanent source of identification for them.

If a pet goes missing and ends up at a shelter, they can scan the microchip and the owner’s contact information comes up.

Every animal adopted through Michigan Humane is microchipped, explained Lidia Vesterfelt with the nonprofit organization.
