From Science to Skateboarding, lots to do this weekend

Here’s a list of fun happenings in and around Detroit

The weekend is almost here, so it’s time to check out what’s happening around metro Detroit.

First up, take a trip back in time and go on a magical journey filled with live action under the big top. “Cirque Italia,” is coming to Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor. The show will take guests on a time traveling journey back to the 50’s, with acts like jugglers, contortionists, trampolines and more. It’s happening Friday through Sunday.

The “Big Pink” is preparing for a big event this Saturday. The “Cartoons and Stereo,” festival is gearing up to bring out skateboarders, those wanting to get in on a slam dunk contest, or anyone looking to come out and have good time. Use the promo code “Local4″ to get 20% off tickets. The event takes place 2p.m. till 11p.m.

The Michigan Science Center will host a community free day on Saturday. The event will feature pre-historic fun like, digging for fossils, building with dino blocks, puppet shows and more. Visitors will also be able to explore the exhibits and watch live science demos. It’s happening 10a.m. till 4p.m.

Finally, the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard is officially opening for the season. To kick things off there will be giant lawn games, music, giveaways and food. It’s happening Sunday 1p.m. till 5p.m.
