Joan Lunden, the former co-host of ABC’s Good Morning America, is set to headline a special event in Port Huron dedicated to honoring caregivers and providing them with essential resources. Lunden, an award-winning journalist and dedicated caregiver advocate, will offer insights from her own experiences, both as a long-distance caregiver and a breast cancer survivor.
During an appearance on “Live In The D,” Lunden reflected on her caregiving journey. “I was what you call a long-distance caregiver...flying back and forth across the country all the time.” She emphasized the importance of being proactive and vigilant, advising caregivers to “take those blinders off and you have to go in and, quite honestly, be a snoop.”
Lunden, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2014, detailed her unexpected discovery of the disease. “Had I not had that ultrasound, I would have walked out of there that day after a clean mammogram,” she said. “But thank God I had that ancillary test…and that’s where they discovered my breast cancer.” Her early detection message is one she hopes will resonate with many, underscoring the critical role of awareness and testing.
The Port Huron event will be held June 3, 2025 at the Blue Water Convention Center. With her blend of personal anecdotes and expert advice, Lunden aims to empower caregivers and inspire attendees to prioritize their health and well-being. She encourages caregivers to remember the importance of self-care. “If you don’t take care of yourself, the chances are that you will die younger than you should have.”
