4 budget-friendly summer trips to take in Michigan

Ideas to help you plan a family getaway

The kids are about to be out of school for summer, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy Michigan’s great outdoors. There are so many beautiful places to visit in Michigan without shelling out a ton of money.

Jill Halpin, the founder and chief beach officer at MyMichiganBeach.com, appeared on “Live In The D” to share four budget-friendly trips your family can take this summer in Michigan.

First, Halpin talked about visiting Petoskey.

“It is one of my favorite spots in Michigan. It’s so picturesque. It’s set right on the shores of Little Traverse Bay. It’s absolutely stunning, and I love it because the bay warms up a little bit,” Halpin said.

She said that Petoskey is a great place for affordable travel because of options like Petoskey State Park, along with city parks, and opportunities for swimming, hiking, biking, camping and cabins.

Halpin also recommends visiting East Tawas, which she called the “Cape Cod of the Midwest.”

She highlighted the community’s walkable downtown and cabins along Lake Huron.

Little Sable Point is another suggestion from Halpin.

If you’re looking for an adventure in the Upper Peninsula, you might want to add Tahquamenon Falls to your summer bucket list.
