Junior League of Detroit blends philanthropy with style for an upcoming fashion show

Event promises style, purpose, and a whole lot of fun

A dynamic group of women is making a difference through service, leadership, and community initiatives. Mary Hollens, president of the Junior League of Detroit, Beulah Cooley, a Detroit fashion designer, and a few models joined “Live in the D” to preview some looks.

“This design was showcased in the 2023 Milan Fashion Week. That piece there, she can wear that with other solid pieces, and these are my creations,” designer Cooley said, while referring to one of the models.

This fashion event especially ties into Junior League’s broader mission, which is supporting women and children in Detroit.

“We had our first fashion show at the original J.L. Hudson site in the 1950s. So, this is a second act for us to come back to that original site, have a fabulous fashion show, and to give back to the city of Detroit and women’s leadership,” Hollens said.

The Junior League’s goals are to target literacy and food insecurity in partnership with Brilliant Detroit. This fashion show will aid in financial support to fund these goals and initiatives.

The Second Act Soirée and Fashion Show will take place Friday, June 20th at 6 p.m., located at Hudson’s Detroit.
