The Detroit Institute of Arts is hosting the fourth annual Wayne County High School Art Exhibition, a vibrant showcase of young talent from across the county. This year, the exhibition features 80 works selected from over 300 submissions, representing 30 different schools.
During an appearance on “Live In The D,” Julia McFarland, Executive Director of Public Affairs & Community Engagement with the DIA, emphasized the importance of the exhibition. “We hope a lot of people will come out and see this exhibition and take part in everything that’s available at the museum.”
Wayne County Executive Warren C. Evans expressed his enthusiasm for the event, saying “It’s fun and exciting in the fourth year to have that many young budding artists come out and display their work in a bunch of different mediums. It’s a testament to the fact that I listened to my wife, who thought of this idea four or five years ago.”
“I was really proud. It was like, wow. My art is able to be seen by others, and people like it enough for it to be in an exhibition,” said Toni Hobdy, a student at the Detroit School of Performing Arts, whose work will be on display.
The exhibition is currently viewable at the DIA and will move to the Guardian Building in Downtown Detroit in August, providing even more exposure for these talented young artists.
