Are your pets part of your fire plan?

Steps to keeping your furry friends safe in case of a fire

National Pet Fire Safety Day is July 15, and it’s a great time to get a head start with making sure you have the knowledge to keep your pets safe if there’s ever a fire.

AnnMarie Chamberlain with Michigan Humane shared some important fire safety tips, which are listed below:

  • Keep candles, lamps, and other flammable objects out of reach of pets.
  • Make note of places your pet naps or hides so you know where to find them during an emergency.
  • Keep collars and leashes near the door.
  • Keep microchip and collar information updated in case your pets get loose during a fire.
  • Get a rescue alert sticker that tells first responders the number of pets in your home.

Michigan Humane has multiple pets that are in need of adoption, including a dog named Hawthorn who AnnMarie said is ready for an adventure.
