Get your steps in along the Detroit Riverfront

Detroit Riverwalkers in action Tuesdays and Thursdays

A popular walking program is back this summer, giving people an opportunity to get their steps in while enjoying the scenic views of the Detroit River.

Renee Rodriguez from the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, along with Christina Chapski and Shingo Matsubara from Henry Ford Health, joined “Live in the D” and shared information about the summer program.

“This is our Detroit Riverwalkers program. It’s been going on for twelve-plus years and it is for older adults who are fifty-plus years old,” Rodriguez said.

This event is about more than just walking — it promotes community building, social activities, and giveaways.

Henry Ford Health, the sponsor for Detroit Riverwalkers, recommends getting warmed up before heading to the walk.

“We like to get people moving, so it’s really important that as you are walking to your fellow river walkers to get the blood flowing before you stretch,” Chapski said while Matsubara demonstrated stretches.

The program is held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekly every Tuesday and Thursday through August 22 at Cullen Plaza. Registration is required.
