Stumbling upon a yard sale can be exciting as a treasure hunt — or as disappointing as a dead end.
If you’re thinking about having a yard sale, Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan joined “Live in the D” to elevate the experience and go from clutter to cash.
“My idea of upscaling is not about fancy merchandise, it’s about making the event exciting to attend and exciting to throw,” Jordan said.
Jordan gave three top tips on how to plan the perfect yard sale:
Inform and be informed
Inform your neighbors that there is going to be an event going on to avoid unwanted interruptions. Make sure to abide by community ordinances and restrictions.
Gather
The next most important thing is to gather the items that you want to sell. An important tip Jon brought is, “Check out your neighbors, see if they have things they want to discard,” Jordan said.
Organize
Organizing is also important. Merchandising and staging is key in the garage sale standing out. “Staging things creatively will help the value go up,” Jordan explained.
