Shakespeare meets the Roaring ‘20s on stage

Livonia Community Theatre is performing “The Comedy of Errors”

You can take a step back in time with flappers, fedoras, and the Roaring ’20s. It’s all part of Shakespeare in the park - with a twist.

The Livonia Community Theatre is presenting a free production of “The Comedy of Errors” at John Stymelski Veteran’s Park in Livonia.

Director Kelly Petrie and actors Chris Martin, Katie Crombez, and Mike Rea appeared on “Live In The D” to share what the audience can expect when they see the show.

Petrie explained how she added a Roaring ‘20s theme and even a Detroit connection to Shakespeare.

“I’ve always loved comedy, and specifically ”The Comedy of Errors”, Petrie said. “We do it very much like a cartoon, and I’ve always been fascinated with the 1920s and the bootleggers and everything that went on in Detroit. And also, I have a lot of family history where my great-great Uncle was a mobster...”

Performances of “The Comedy of Errors” will be held Friday, July 25 at 6:30pm, Saturday, July 26 at 6:30pm, and Sunday, July 27 at 2pm at John Stymelski Veteran’s Park in Livonia.

The show has free admission. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs to sit in while enjoying the show.
