Turn fresh produce into stunning crudité platters

Try these tricks to slay the crudité for your next dinner party

As summer peaks, fresh produce is abundant at grocery stores, farmers markets, roadside stands, and even in backyards. A chopped veggie platter is a great way to enjoy these seasonal delights, but Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan is known for kicking things up to the next level.

Crudité is the French word for raw, and it’s also a category of appetizer featuring freshly cut vegetables artfully arranged.

Jon broke down the production of a crudité platter into simple steps, starting with a cucumber. “Instead of making a blunt cut, you cut it on a bias so that you get an oval. It just looks more elevated,” he demonstrated.

When it comes to cutting, Jon says there’s an art to it. While special tools can help, you don’t need them.

For his “A-game” effort, Jon showed off a peacock platter design, turning fresh veggies into a crowd-stopping centerpiece.

“The prettier you make the vegetables the more appealing they are,” Jon added.
