When families experience the heartbreak of pregnancy loss, the grief can feel isolating and overwhelming. Now, one local nonprofit is making sure that no one must walk through that pain alone.
Remembering Cherubs helps families with compassion through every support toolkit they create. Monica Sholar Anderson founded Remembering Cherubs after her journey through her own loss.
“Unfortunately, my infant son died in my arms at birth. His lungs and kidneys weren’t developed enough to survive. I had that loss, and there just wasn’t a lot of guidance on how to navigate life when you were expecting to have this baby in it, what to do with your grief, and so I just kind of went on with life,” Anderson said.
After experiencing a miscarriage years later, Monica decided it was time to help those who have experienced the same loss.
“I was surrounded by people who loved me but didn’t really know what to say besides ‘Oh, you could have another baby,’ but I wanted this one,” Monica said.
Remembering Cherubs became a personal mission for Monica to help support grieving parents with compassion, education, and healing.
“I didn’t know where to take my pain. I wasn’t aware of any groups or any support, and so I decided to create it,” she said.
Remembering Cherubs provides pregnancy loss toolkits with helpful information for those navigating profound loss.
“We walk with families from the moment of loss through the journey of healing,” Monica said.
Remembering Cherubs primarily partners with health systems or other organizations that serve populations that experience a loss. They have already helped hundreds of families across Metro Detroit and beyond, and they’re hoping to expand their reach even further.
Remembering Cherubs will hold its annual Talk It Out, Walk It Out Event Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Charles H. Wright Museum. “Live In The D” co-host Tati Amare will serve as the emcee.
