Festival-filled weekend on tap for the D

You can check out the Michigan Renaissance Festival, Howell Melon Festival, and more

From classic cars to music, and melons, there’s a lot happening around Detroit this weekend.

The Woodward Dream Cruise revs into action. The event that thrills car enthusiasts is celebrating 30 years. From muscle cars to street rods and custom rides, classic cars will be cruising along Woodward Avenue on Saturday. The official Dream Cruise route spans from Ferndale to Pontiac. The Woodward Dream Cruise runs Saturday, Aug. 16th from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

Go back in time at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. This marks opening weekend at the festival in Holly. Get ready to see knights, jesters, jousting, and a lot of turkey legs. Festival goers can enjoy food, watch performances, and shop for a variety of crafts. The Michigan Renaissance Festival runs from this Saturday, Aug. 16th through Sept. 28th.

You can head over to Howell for a different kind of festival. The Howell Melon Festival returns — celebrating the community’s agricultural roots. Melon ice cream is one of the highlights of this event, plus there’s a Melon Run, musical performances, vendors, and more. The 65th Howell Melon Festival runs Thursday, Aug. 14th through Sunday, Aug. 17th in downtown Howell.

You can celebrate summer vibes during the R&Beach Party at Campus Martius Park. Beats will be playing while people sip on tropical cocktails, and enjoy giveaways. You can also get a bite to eat from Brisa Bar. The R&Beach Party is Saturday, Aug. 16th from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m.

K-Pop fans can head to the Detroit Institute of Arts for a special event. The K-Pop Culture Experience will feature music, dancing, interactive Korean games, and samples of Korean cuisine. The event at the DIA runs Saturday, Aug. 16th from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
