Back-to-school season impacts more than just students, teachers, and parents. It also changes the routine of the four-legged members of the family.
AnnMarie Chamberlain with Michigan Humane shared advice to help make it a smooth start to the school year for your pets too.
AnnMarie emphasized that dogs and cats thrive on schedules, and it’s important to make a gradual transition to a new routine. She said to start small with changing mealtimes and walk times and to make adjustments over the course of several days.
“It’s also about just giving them a lot of love and attention when you do see them because they’re going to be home alone more,” AnnMarie said.
Another suggestion is to consider a dog day care or pet walking service.
If you’re looking to add a new furry friend to the family, Michigan Humane has multiple pets that are looking for a forever home. One of them is a puppy named Jacques Clouseau.
“He was named after the Pink Panther because of how mischievous he is, but he is a just playful, fun boy, just about six months old, and he has never met a stranger in his life. Everyone is his best friend, and he is just an absolute sweetheart,” AnnMarie said.
