Families in Detroit are gearing up for a day of excitement, connection, and community support as the SASHA Center hosts its fifth annual Friends and Family Fun Day. The event, happening Saturday August 23 at Avalon Healing Center in Detroit, promises a vibrant mix of activities from bounce houses to yoga sessions, all designed to bring the community together.
Kalimah Johnson, founder and director of the SASHA Center, shared her enthusiasm on “Live In The D,” saying, “We want to really give people a soft introduction to what we do and to have fun and to help parents in the city.” The SASHA Center, celebrating its 15th year, is a Detroit-based non-profit that provides support to individuals who have experienced sexual trauma, focusing on education, training, and community events.
This year’s event is not just about fun; it’s a vital resource for families as they prepare for the new school year. “We have backpacks, we’ll have supplies, and they don’t have to worry about making the purchases for those,” Johnson said.
Families can also connect with various support systems available for both children and adults, ensuring a smooth transition back to school. Johnson emphasized the importance of community support, adding, “If they know where to go, who to call, what to ask for, and there are people right there for them for that exact purpose, that they’ll have a successful school year.”
Attendees can find more information and register for the event via the SASHA Center’s website and social media platforms.
