The debate intensifies over whether phones are a necessary safety tool or a classroom distraction.
As some Michigan school districts implement policies - and other states adopt laws with outright cell phone bans on campus - parents and educators are grappling with the right balance between safety and distraction.
Steve Lulgjuraj, Executive Producer of “Live In The D” and a father of two high school students in Texas, expressed mixed feelings about the strict policies adopted in that state. “While I agree that cell phones should not be in the classroom during lessons, I don’t know if I’m sold 100% on them not having any access throughout the day,” he said.
Gwen Jimmere, parent and host of the “Get Money” podcast, echoed a similar sentiment, emphasizing safety concerns. “I would like for my son to be able to text me and say, ‘Hey, I’m in danger,’” she said, while supporting a ban during class time.
The discussion underscores the ongoing dialogue about how to best integrate technology into educational environments without compromising safety or focus.
