The weekend is upon us, and the Friday vibes might have you thinking about good food and good times. How does this sound; dishes inspired by the Caribbean Islands, and a vibe that’s taking the Detroit restaurant scene to another level? If this sounds like a place you’ll want to check out, then head over to Barù, the new hot spot in Downtown Detroit.
When it comes to the décor, the beauty is in the name. “It’s a beautiful island off of Colombia,” said owner, Melissa Thrower. She said when you walk in, you feel as though you’ve walked into paradise. The restaurant has brought the outside in, with live plants and colorful flowers throughout.
The dishes fuse together Latin fare with Jamaican cuisine - and are packed with flavors from the islands. “Taking stuff that our grandparents would cook - me coming from Jamaica, and Melissa from Puerto Rico,” said Executive Chef and Partner at Barù, Lloyd Roberts.
