Detroit’s HGTV Favorite Maps Her Next Move

Bargain Block realtor talks legacy, first-time buyers and what’s ahead

As HGTV’s Bargain Block wraps, Detroit real estate pro and TV personality Shea Hicks-Whitfield isn’t slowing down. During an appearance on “Live In The D,” she said she’s focused on championing neighborhoods, educating first-time buyers and keeping Detroit’s story front and center.

“What means the most to me is how we’ve been able to highlight Detroit in such a positive way,” Hicks-Whitfield said. “We get a black eye nationally, but people are seeing the city differently.”

The show’s national reach has reshaped her day-to-day. She says viewers from the West Coast and beyond have reached out - and some have even relocated - after realizing they could find “a beautiful, affordable home here in Detroit.”

Hicks-Whitfield still marvels at the early transformations that defined the series. “Seeing a home go from disaster to delightful literally brought tears to my eyes,” she said, praising the care and detail that went into making properties welcoming for first-time buyers.

Off-camera, her mission continues: demystify the process, build confidence and help families create generational wealth. “Homeownership is possible,” she said. “There’s no silly question. Let’s start now and figure out what we need to do to create this for you.”

As for what’s next, she teased more collaborations with her Bargain Block team and left the door open for future TV. Either way, the plan is simple: keep lifting up Detroit - house by house, block by block.
