Your wedding day is often described as one of the best days of your life, but it’s no secret that the planning leading up to the big day can sometimes feel like a full-time job.
You could get a helping hand this weekend at Bridal Celebrations, an event that’s bringing various wedding vendors together all under one roof in Birmingham.
“We have over 50 of Metro Detroit’s top wedding professionals, everything from florals, gowns, suits, cakes, everything to get your inspiration and plan your big day,” said Lindsay Sheridan, an events and marketing coordinator with Hour Detroit.
Award-winning cake artist and owner of Elegance in Sugar, Laura Amodeo, is among the vendors that will be participating in the bridal show. Ahead of the event, she shared some insight about wedding cakes while appearing on “Live In The D.”
First, Amodeo stressed the importance of setting a realistic budget.
“In this area, a slice of cake runs $3 to $8 a serving,” she said.
Amodeo said that one option is to have a smaller wedding cake and to have kitchen cakes in the back. She explained that kitchen cakes are a wedding cake tier that is not decorated.
If you’re trying to save money, Amodeo explained that you can actually rent a cake model or so-called “fake cake” from a bakery showroom to display. Then, you can serve slices of sheet cake from the back.
You can get more wedding planning tips at the Bridal Celebrations event on Sunday, Sept. 14th. It will be from noon until 3 p.m. at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.
