The DIY Ferndale Street Art Fair is back Sept. 19-21 - and the grills will be going.
Matthew Smith, owner of Detroit BBQ Company, dropped by “Live in the D” to preview what he’s bringing to the 18th annual, free and family-friendly festival, which also features live music, local food and hundreds of artists and makers.
“Detroit BBQ has been there for roughly 12 years,” Smith said, adding that the crowd favorite remains the beef brisket. He kept the pitch simple: slow-smoked meats, stacked sandwiches and scratch-made sides.
“My favorite part of the event is making all this food and watching everybody enjoy it,” Smith said.
Expect pulled chicken and pulled pork sandwiches, plus mac and cheese and jalapeño cornbread - and yes, the coleslaw is made from scratch. Detroit BBQ Company will be serving all three days.
The DIY Ferndale Street Art Fair runs Sept. 19-21 on the east side of Woodward, between Nine Mile and Troy. Admission is free.
