The hit crime-drama “CHiPS” captivated pop culture when it aired in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Now, nearly 50 years after “Ponch” and “Jon” patrolled on their motorcycles, they are in Metro Detroit for a fan event.
Actors Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox, who played officers on the California Highway Patrol, stopped by “Live in the D” to talk about this weekend’s event, and to reminisce about the good times.
They discussed the impact that “CHiPS” still has today, and how it takes people back to their childhood, watching the show with family and friends.
“When they see us, they’re excited about the show, the mics, the whole thing. But they don’t realize, and they get emotional, because they’ve seen it with grandma, grandpa, brothers, sisters, siblings, first girlfriend, first boyfriend,” Estrada said. “It was that kind of thing, so they get those memories and feelings.”
You can catch Estrada and Wilcox at Fantasticon, which is being held in Waterford on Sept. 27th and Sept. 28th. To learn more about the event and to watch the whole interview, click the video above.
