Raising awareness for the workers who help make a difference in the lives of animals
Audrey Ash, Live in the D Intern
It’s National Veterinary Technician Week - a time to celebrate the workers who have a huge impact on animal health.
Lidia Vesterfelt from Michigan Humane, along with a 2-year-old cat named Zucchini, joined “Live in the D” to share a glimpse into all that vet techs do.
Lidia emphasizes how important vet techs are - they cover several small but helpful tasks such as assisting veterinarians with getting a pet ready for surgery and administrating vaccines and medications.
Becoming a vet tech is no easy feat, as it requires additional years of schooling, clinical hours, and you have to pass an exam to earn state accredited credentials. Michigan Humane is looking for vet techs to add to the team. To find out more you can visit Michiganhumane.org.
