Medicare’s annual open enrollment period starts today and runs through Dec. 7, and seniors shouldn’t wait to review their coverage, Debbie Stroup of Legacy Partners Insurance said during an appearance on “Live in the D.”
“We highly recommend that you don’t wait till the last minute. Right now is the time to take action,” said Stroup.
She cautioned that “multiple tens and tens and tens of plans in the state of Michigan” are being discontinued for 2025. “We have folks that are going to wake up on January 1st and not have a plan,” she said.
She advised shoppers to make decisions based on specifics, not ads or emotion. “People need to pick a plan based on facts,” Stroup said. “Make sure your doctor is in network, make sure your prescriptions are in network, make sure your pharmacy is in network, make sure you can take this with you when you travel. And if you can answer no to any of those questions, it’s time to look for a new plan.”
Ahead of a review, Stroup said beneficiaries should bring a list of doctors, prescriptions, preferred pharmacy and specialists. “Then we hyper-focus and find the plan where all of those are in network,” she said.
Stroup emphasized that Legacy Partners’ guidance doesn’t cost beneficiaries anything. “There is no charge for our services and we’re here with you throughout your Medicare journey… you call us, we help you manage your Medicare - always free.”
Her bottom line: don’t delay. “I recommend calling right now,” Stroup said. “We have a whole team waiting for you… You don’t have to do it alone.”
