Winter in Michigan can be brutal - especially on your roof. That’s why one local expert says now’s the time to make sure your home is ready for the cold.
“Even small issues now can turn into big, expensive problems once winter sets in,” said David Malseed, general manager with Mr. Roof, during an appearance on Live in the D.
Malseed says homeowners don’t have to risk climbing a ladder to spot potential trouble. “You can start simple,” he said. “Look up and check your shingles for wear and tear - things like cracks, missing pieces, or areas where the granules are coming off. That’s a sign your roof isn’t protecting like it used to.”
Mr. Roof, which has served Metro Detroit since the 1960s, offers a free 21-point roof inspection that covers everything from shingle condition and flashing to gutters and attic insulation. “We climb up and do a full diagnostic,” Malseed explained. “Then we sit down with the homeowner to go over what we found and how to get their roof ready for winter.”
One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make, he says, is waiting too long. “We get calls every February or March from people dealing with leaks, mold in the attic, or drywall damage,” Malseed said. “By then, the repairs are a lot more costly.”
As an incentive, Mr. Roof is offering free gutters with any new roof purchased this winter, and anyone who mentions Live in the D when scheduling an inspection will be entered to win a free insulation upgrade.
Homeowners can schedule an inspection or request a quote at mrroof.com or by calling 1-800-4-MR-ROOF.
