As the holidays approach, families will be preparing special meals. For some, this may not be an easy task. That’s why the Semaj J Morgan Foundation is giving away food to families in need.
The star University of Michigan football player, stopped by “Live in the D” to chat about a big food giveaway happening in Detroit. “This year is our 3rd annual turkey giveaway. We will be giving away 2,000 turkeys, 2,000 food bags - thanks to Walmart - and 500 hot plates made by our team. So, this is very important to me,” Morgan said.
He said he started the Semaj Morgan foundation in 2023 when he graduated high school, because he felt the need to give back to his community and people in need. These are lessons he said were instilled in him while in high school, and a part of the Detroit youth mentoring organization Sound Mind, Sound Body. "Coach Blackwell always told us, when we get in the position that we want to be in, always reach back to be able to pull up the people that look up to you," Morgan said.
The food giveaway is happening Sunday, November 16, 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Sound Mind, Sound Body headquarters at 11440 Morang, Detroit.
The event is open to the public.
