A powerhouse saxophonist who has toured the world, played with legends, and continues to push the sound of jazz forward was the Music Monday guest on “Live in the D.” Dave McMurray stopped by the show ahead of the release of his new album, and upcoming performance at Third Man Records.
McMurray talked about the inspiration behind his album, titled “I love my life even when I’m hurting.” “I came up with the title just talking with a friend, you know, this was kind of a strange year with deaths of a few good friends,” he said. He said he remembered someone who was thinking about giving up, and that’s when McMurray came up with the title of his album.
Fans can see him perform at an upcoming free concert. “It’s an all-Detroit band, and we’re gonna be playing music that is inspired by Detroit.” McMurray said. He performed the song “Jungaleers.”
