New NBC sitcom, “The Paper” debuts November 10

The show is compared to “The Office,” but it’s different

A new sitcom is making its NBC premiere, November 10th. If you were a fan of “The Office,” then “The Paper” might just be for you. The “Mockumentary” style series tells the story of a fictional newspaper in Toledo, and ahead of the premiere, two stars of the show, Domhnall Gleeson and Chelsea Frei, spoke with “Live in the D,” about the show, and what will unfold during the 1st episode.

“It’s kind of a struggling newspaper, mainly focused on clickbait articles at this point, then Ned Sampson, played by the lovely and incredible Domhnall Gleeson, comes in to kind of revitalize the newspaper and basically just reinspire us all to do something important and tell important stories and local journalism,” Frei said.

“Ned,” played by Gleeson, is the paper’s Editor-in-Chief, and when asked if he is up for the challenge, he said, “Absolutely not, no, no, no, no.” He said the character had never been an editor before, and that’s where things get interesting, creating a push and pull with employees of the paper.

The series is being compared to “The Office,” but the cast said, it’s different. “Oscar from The Office, we get to work with him every day, which is a gift and a joy, but it’s a totally different story, I think there’s a lot more hope, I think they are, you know, really actively working towards making something better."

The series premiere of “The Paper” is November 10th at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.
