They say dogs are a man’s best friend so here’s a reason to celebrate that special bond - it’s Human-Animal Relationship Week!
Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane joined “Live in the D” to share some of the benefits of having a pet.
Lidia brought Hubba, a 5-year-old dog who is looking for his forever home.
Lidia explained how owning a pet can improve your health. Several studies have demonstrated an association between pet ownership and a lower risk of heart related health issues. Pet owners are more likely to reach the 150 minutes of physical activity per week and have an emotional support buddy, contributing to a better mental health.
The human-animal bond benefits pets as well. The strong connection between owners and their pets has correlated with higher rates of veterinary treatment for both preventive care and specific conditions.
You can celebrate this special relationship by spending some quality time with your pet. Go on a walk, play with their favorite toy or offer them a treat. Be sure to check your pets’ medical records to ensure vaccines and other specialized care are up to date.
If you are looking for a human-animal bond, you can sign up to foster a pet from Michigan Humane or take an available pet on a sleepover or dog-day getaway.
You can consider adopting our pet of the week. Our sponsor the Mike Morse Law Firm will pay for the standard adoption fees. To learn more information, watch the video above.
