The Festival of Trees has transformed the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn into a holiday showcase to benefit the Children’s Foundation. The event, which launched with a preview gala on Nov. 22, runs through Nov. 30.
“It’s a feast for the eyes, for sure,” said Dave Schneck, vice president of the Festival of Trees board of directors, during an appearance on Live in the D. “There’s really a little bit for everyone at the festival.”
Professionally decorated trees anchor the display alongside family-friendly attractions, including Santas, model trains, Legos, a gift shop, raffle prizes and therapy dogs. Attendees can purchase ornaments, snow globes, figurines, wreaths, centerpieces and smaller trees on site. Large trees purchased at the event will be delivered to homes and businesses Tuesday, Dec. 2, with crews handling setup. “They just set the tree up and make sure it looks as pretty on their floor as it does on ours,” said Kimberly Schneck, executive director of Festival of Trees.
Proceeds support pediatric research through the Children’s Foundation, which directs funds to physicians and researchers at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. “The budgets for pediatric research are considerably smaller than research for adults,” Kimberly Schneck said. “These kids are our future.”
Supporters can sponsor or purchase trees, donate online or volunteer. Details are available at fot.org.
