Music Monday: Julia Rose brings soul-stirring sound to Live in the D

Detroit singer-songwriter previews new music

Metro Detroit singer-songwriter Julia Rose brought her alternative-meets-indie sound to Live in the D’s Music Monday segment, sharing her journey, a forthcoming project and a performance of her original song “Butterfly.”

Rose, who has performed at festivals, iconic local venues and intimate stages for more than a decade, said her songwriting often explores identity, resilience and the connections that shape us. “It’s okay to be real. It’s okay to cry… We don’t need to be perfect,” Rose said.

After stepping back from live shows for nearly a year to focus on writing, Rose said she has seven tracks ready to record over the winter, with releases planned for early spring or mid-summer. She also reflected on her early start in music, learning piano as a child and later picking up guitar while recovering from an ACL tear at age 12.
