You can help to make Thanksgiving special for pets who are up for adoption through Michigan Humane’s Howliday Sleepover Program.
The program is free, and all that participants have to do is take a dog home for the holiday. Michigan Humane will provide food, a bed, toys, a collar, and a leash for the pet.
“We have our canine sleepover program all the time, all year round, but it’s especially important during the holidays just because a lot of people are busy. Adoption rates can go down a little bit,” said Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane.
Lidia explained that it’s really important for dogs to be able to get out of the shelter and be in a home for the holidays in order to decompress from the shelter, but also to get used to a home environment for when they do eventually get adopted.
One of the pets up for adoption through Michigan Humane is a dog named Cindy.
“Cindy is a senior pet. She is nine and a half years old, but sometimes she acts like a puppy. You wouldn’t even know that she’s that old. She loves going for walks and getting scratches, and she’s a really well-behaved and calm girl that just wants a lot of love and snacks and a cozy bed,” Lidia explained.
