Thanksgiving is going to the dogs

Competition will heat up on the National Dog Show

The National Dog Show presented by Purina is returning this Thanksgiving.

The show will feature 2,000 of the top dogs in the country, representing 200 different breeds. Through process of elimination, the competition will choose one dog to be considered “Best in Show,” explained John O’Hurley, the host of the National Dog Show.

There is a new dog joining the show this year, the Danish-Swedish Farmdog.

When asked how much time the dogs and their handlers put in for a show like this, O’Hurley replied, “I asked one of the handlers the other day, and he said, ‘I spend three hours on the dog.’ I said how ‘how long do you spend on yourself?’ He said about fifteen minutes.”

Whether you’re 4 or 94, O’Hurley said there’s something for everyone.

You can watch the National Dog Show on Local 4 this Thanksgiving, starting at 4 p.m.
