A special effort is underway at the Pope Francis Center in Detroit to help support men who are experiencing homelessness.
The Pope Francis Center offers critical services, including providing meals, showers, laundry, medical care, and housing support.
The Pope Francis Center provides a different approach than traditional shelter models. It has two components: a Day Center, and a separate Bridge Housing Campus.
Residents at the Bridge Housing Campus are welcomed into an environment designed to meet not just their physical needs, but one that also gives them room to reflect on what they’d like to see their future look like.
“This is a stepping stone, and I’m going to take every advantage that I can from this stepping stone,” said Jeffrey Snyder, a resident at the Pope Francis Center.
Each resident has access to individualized support, including counseling, life skills programs, and job guidance.
For many people experiencing homelessness, getting basic medical care can be a challenge. However, donated health services are making a big difference in people’s lives at the Day Center. Residents at the Bridge Housing Campus have access to their own full-service medical and dental clinic.
When dangerously cold temperatures hit, the gym at the Pope Francis Center’s Bridge Housing Campus is turned into an emergency shelter.
The Pope Francis Center relies heavily on the help of volunteers.
The Day Center is located at 438 Saint Antoine Street in Detroit, while the Bridge Housing Campus can be found at 2915 W. Hancock Street.
