Goodman Acker P.C., the Detroit-based personal injury firm, is urging winter safety and highlighting its community work as the season sets in.
During an appearance on Live in the D, partner Jordan Acker said the firm is seeing a seasonal spike in car crashes and slip-and-fall cases on black ice, while reminding people that insurance is designed to cover injuries. “As adults, we’re kind of embarrassed to say, ‘Ooh, I fell,’” Acker said. “But the reality is if you got hurt, if you broke a bone, someone should pay for those medical bills. Right. And that person should be the insurance company.”
Founded by Gerald Acker and Barry Goodman in metro Detroit, the firm has grown from a single suite to 15 attorneys with offices in Southfield, Grand Rapids and Sterling Heights. “We are now celebrating our 32nd year in business doing mostly personal injury,” Acker said.
The firm also rolled out a new “Taming the legal jungle” campaign with its first Thanksgiving parade float - a 27-foot-tall display over Woodward Avenue featuring an injured elephant who ultimately finds help and “gets fixed” with the firm.
This month, the firm is helping provide toys to more than 1,500 Detroit children and continues distributing carbon monoxide monitors with local fire departments. “We grew up here. This is our home,” Acker said. “It’s not just about making money for us. We’re part of this community, and that means we have to be good neighbors.”
