Keeping pets safe around holiday decorations

Expert shares tips on décor and fur babies

The holidays are upon us, and as you put up your festive decorations, you might be adding some holiday cheer to your home, but don’t forget about your furry friends.

Lidia Vesterfelt with Michigan Humane stopped by “Live in the D,” to share some holiday décor pet safety tips. “You gotta be conscious of where you’re putting things, and if they’re within your pet’s reach,” said Vesterfelt.

She said you’ve probably seen videos online of kittens in trees, and it’s cute - but things like tinsel and small ornaments like glass can break, and cause harm to your pet. The pet can be injured or it can ingest something harmful. She suggested using plastic ornaments and sparkly décor instead of tinsel.

Vesterfelt also brought a cute kitten, “Jimmy,” that’s currently available for adoption. The Mike Morse Law Firm will pay the standard adoption fees for whoever adopts today’s pet of the week.
