Local 4 Lifestyle Editor breaks down ‘Quarter Zip’ trend

Viral video inspires young men to dress more elegantly

For this week’s Trending Tuesday segment, Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan tackled the growing “Quarter-Zip” trend. TikTok user Jason Gyamfi went viral after switching to wearing quarter zip sweaters, instead of Nike Tech, and other causal street wear. His TikTok video received almost 24 million views, and inspired tens of thousands of young men to follow in his footsteps.

The trend also mentions dumping coffee for matcha. The whole meaning behind the trend is for young men to look and act more professional, and to carry themselves in a more sophisticated manner.

“The quarter-zip is not anything new, it’s a very standard cut of sweater,” Jordan said. He explained that the sweater gets its name because the closure goes a quarter of the way down. He said this trend has young men striving to look more “elegant.” “It was a change for them to kind of elevate themselves, and it didn’t take much.”
