Toledo is getting national attention as a winter escape, earning a spot on Travel + Leisure’s list of best winter wonderland getaways. During an appearance on Live in the D, Caleigh Heuring, director of communications for Destination Toledo, said the recognition reflects both value and variety.
“We’re really proud of that recognition,” Heuring said. “It comes in large part because of the number of winter-friendly activities for families and the affordable stays we have here—plus special holiday offers on our website.”
Top draws include the Lights Before Christmas at the Toledo Zoo, celebrating 40 years with more than a million lights, and the riverfront’s seasonal activations on both banks. The Glass City Metropark’s 1,000-foot skating ribbon—open daily through March—offers skyline views, affordable skate rentals and cabana options.
For travelers looking to explore beyond Toledo, Ohio’s Holiday Lights Trail features 79 displays statewide, including 17 in northwest Ohio. “For our neighbors to the north who want something different, exploring the Ohio Holiday Lights Trail is a great way to make the most of the season,” Heuring said. “Why not make some new holiday memories down here in Ohio?”
