Detroit Trouble brought its high‑octane blend of rock, soul and Motor City attitude to Live in the D’s Music Monday, with lead singer Kidd Lightning framing the band’s mission in unmistakably blue‑collar terms.
“It comes from the depths of working-class folks that I’ve worked with over the years myself through blue collar jobs as a mechanic and welder,” Lightning said of the band’s name and ethos, nodding to “smokey bars and clubs” that shaped their sound and hustle.
The group, which has gigged across Detroit and Michigan and hit stages in Los Angeles, Nashville and Memphis, says it’s cut from the same cloth as the audiences it aims to rally. “We really represent the core of blue collar men and women of the workforce,” Lightning said, citing touchstones like Bob Seger, Kid Rock and Ted Nugent. “We like to represent those folks through that style of music because it hits home with them.”
Up next, Detroit Trouble is bound for Florida, performing on the MSC Rock Cruise as part of the Margaritaville Islander Bike Fest at Sea alongside tribute acts. “We’re going to be on a cruise ship,” Lightning said, adding that fans can find dates and updates at detroittroubleband.com.
The band closed the segment with Shine, a revved‑up nod to Woodward cruising and late‑night Detroit swagger — or as Lightning put it, “Let’s show them what we’re made out of.”
