Movie reviewer Greg Russell of movieshowplus.com says James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash delivers on spectacle, while The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants serves up family-friendly fun and Dust Bunny taps into childhood fears.
“If you’re gonna see it, if you can see it in IMAX, you’ll really be pulled into this movie,” Russell said of Fire and Ash, praising the visuals and the immersive scale. During Live in the D’s Reel Talk segment, he noted the most devoted fans will be especially satisfied, adding that while die-hards were “giving it a 10,” he lands at a solid four reels for broader audiences.
The animated The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants—featuring voice talent that includes Mark Hamill—earns three and a half reels from Russell. “It’s the perfect one to take your kids out to,” he said, pointing out that adults who grew up with the absorbent icon will find plenty to enjoy too.
On the darker side, Dust Bunny stars Mads Mikkelsen as a stoic neighbor enlisted by a young girl who believes a monster lurks beneath her bed. “It’s kind of neat because, remember, when we were all growing up, we swore there was something under our bed at night,” Russell said. He highlighted the film’s throwback thrills and the eerie soundscape that taps into universal, under-the-bed jitters.
