Trending Tuesday: Trends to try in 2026

Fewer hashtags, tai chi, and a fresh coat of paint

On the first “Trending Tuesday” of the year, Local 4 Lifestyle Editor Jon Jordan sketched out a 2026 playbook built on restraint, realism and DIY confidence.

Start with social media: Jordan says the era of piling on tags has faded. “There’s a neediness attached to the number,” he said, noting platforms increasingly limit hashtags and users lean into humor overreach.

Slang is due for a refresh, too. He pointed to Lake Superior State University’s annual list of words to retire - “my bad” among them - and warned that misusing slang can instantly date a speaker.

Fitness trends are shifting from extreme to sustainable. Jordan expects mind-body work to surge. “My social media is bombarded with all things tai chi,” he said, calling it a marker of less aggressive workouts. Body talk is softening as well, with “dad bods” getting airtime - and pushback toward a more balanced ideal.

At home, Jordan urged viewers to level up their skills. Organization is a smart first step. “Organization really is an easy thing to do,” he said. “But it’s so good for your mental health.”

Then, grab a roller. Paint remains the highest-impact, low-cost upgrade. “You can increase the value of your home simply by learning how to paint,” Jordan said, teasing Thursday’s segment: “Paint, paint and more paint.”
