Music Monday: Ethan Marc Band

Band previews new album on Live in the D

The Ethan Marc Band returned to Live in the D’s Music Monday with a live performance and an announcement: a new album, “Stuff,” paired with a mental health benefit show on Feb. 21 at the Magic Stick in Detroit, with proceeds supporting Common Ground.

“We kind of wrote it during a transitional period in my life,” said lead vocalist Ethan Marc. “I feel like I was healing a lot of trauma. I feel like my old self was dying in some ways and this album was kind of like a final goodbye from my old self and beginning of a new chapter.”

The Detroit-rooted group has leaned into its hometown for visuals, filming at landmarks like the Guardian Building and the People Mover. “I feel like Detroit just has a lot of character,” Marc said. “It’s a city on the rise and we’re all from Detroit, so we’re kind of just trying to rep our home city.”

Tying the album’s themes to action, the band’s Feb. 21 show will donate a portion of vinyl sales to Common Ground. “The album kind of touches on healing trauma and going on to new phases in life,” Marc said. “Common Ground is kind of a resource to people who are looking to do that as well… helping the cause.”
