Greg Russell of Movieshowplus.com introduced another set of stories you can bundle up and watch this weekend as temperatures drop to below freezing outside.
Greg started with a cyber thriller called “Mercy”. The film stars Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. Pratt takes on the role of a police officer in the near future who has been accused of murdering his wife and put on trial. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to an advanced A.I. judge played by Ferguson’s character, to decide his fate.
Earning three reels from Greg, he mentioned that it’s a “January movie.” He added, “It’s a popcorn movie, it isn’t out for any awards, and that’s what it is.”
“Standout: The Ben Kjar Story” was Greg’s next film in the lineup, earning four reels. Directed by Tanner Christensen, it’s a documentary of a true story that follows the life of wrestler Ben Kjar who was born with Crouzon Syndrome, a rare craniofacial condition. Kjar always stood out with a lot of teasing and bullying. Despite this, he found a way to turn his disability into a positive, inspiring story, becoming a three-time state wrestling champion.
“This is a very moving story,” Greg explained. “A story that should let everyone know if there’s something you want to do, do it.”
Rounding out this week’s Reel Talk was a brand-new series on Netflix following comedian Bert Kreischer, called “Free Bert”. Playing himself, Kreischer attempts to fit into Beverly Hills society after relocating there so his daughters can attend an elite private school.
Heavily themed on family relationships, Greg noted, “This one shows real life, where people are talking back to each other, leaving the rooms messy and things like that.”
