Reel Talk: Grab some popcorn and enjoy a survival drama, intimate stories, and emotional relationships

A Private Life, Send Help, and Shelter are the ones to watch this weekend

Greg Russell of MovieShowPlus.com returned this week with a fantastic slate of films to watch.

Beginning with a French black comedy mystery thriller, “A Private Life” follows a renowned psychiatrist mounting a private investigation into the death of one of her patients. Believing they were murdered, it sends the film down a mysterious path as she looks to solve the case.

Earning four reels from Greg, he believes that as long as you’re willing to read the subtitles, as the movie is in French, this movie is definitely worth your time.

Next up for Greg is the psychological thriller, “Send Help”. The film stars Rachel McAdams, whose character gets stranded on an island with her insufferable boss after being the only two survivors of a plane crash. Directed by Detroit’s own Sam Raimi, the movie is a thrilling ride with gore and some laughter.

In terms of reels, it’s another must-watch. “Again, another four,” Greg said. “You’ll get a kick out of it cause there’s enough humor and enough mystery and all that in there.”

Rounding out an impressive trio of films was the film “Shelter”. Starring the famous Jason Statham, a recluse on a remote Scottish island rescues a girl from the sea. This leads to a large series of events that force an attack on Statham’s character’s home, forcing him to face his history.

Earning another four reels from Greg to give fours across the board, it marks the end of the commonly known “dump month” for movies in January. “Like how we talked about last week, we said how this used to be the throwaway month, not anymore,” said Greg. “These are worth going out. You’ve got action, suspense in another one, and whodunnit in another one.”
